Creating NEBourhoods Together – Shaping beautiful and environmentally friendly neighborhoods in Munich-Neuperlach together.

The project "Creating NEBourhoods Together" was one of six lighthouse projects funded by the European Commission within the framework of the New European Bauhaus (NEB).

Creating NEBourhoods Together ensured sustainable living and working in the Munich district of Neuperlach. Together with citizens, creatives and experts, we developed ideas in and for Neuperlach:

• We launched start-ups and implemented projects that improve the quality of life, make everyday life easier and contribute to climate protection.
• We focused on public space, attractive living, energy communities and local mobility, as well as youth culture, nutrition, biodiversity and the circular economy.
• Creating NEBourhoods Together set an example in Neuperlach for other European cities: beautiful, sustainable and inclusive.
  

NEB Actions for climate and socially just development of the district

In order to implement concrete solutions during the project period, ten sub-projects, so-called "Actions" were planned. These ten NEB Actions addressed the design and use of public space for all generations, retrofitting of residential buildings, and circularity in existing buildings. They tested innovations for more biodiversity, renewable energy, local mobility and nutrition.

The "New European Bauhaus" (NEB) initiative was launched by the President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The aim of the initiative is to support the European Green Deal in an interdisciplinary and participatory process through innovative ideas and concepts. The NEB follows the three core values:

Ambitious transformations need trend-setting solutions at a high technological and scientific level. At the same time, they should be perceived by local people as something positive, tangible and desirable.

Creating NEBourhoods Together combined multiple focus topics of UnternehmerTUM in one project. In addition to health, circularity and digitalization, the main focus was solving our time together challenges.

With our focus on entrepreneurship in the project, we contributed to the implementation of the European Green Deal - Europe's ambition to be the first continent to become climate neutral by 2050.

We invited the citizens of Neuperlach to actively participate in improving the quality of life in their neighbourhood. Together we created awareness and opened the neighbourhood's sustainable development space.

For two years, a team led by the City of Munich collaborated with citizens of Neuperlach on the project.
